Students who have the following personal qualities are much more likely to thrive in college.
Self-awareness and self-acceptance
Proactivity as opposed to reactivity
Perseverance
Skill in setting short and long-range goals
Use of effective support systems
Strong emotional coping strategies
It is best to have psychological and/or educational testing that was completed less than 3 years before applying to college because colleges usually demand recent testing to support a petition for accommodations.
Students will need to inform the college of their educational needs by registering with the office on campus that is in charge of reviewing and granting accommodations.

What is IQ Testing?

Dr. Paula Olszewski-Kubilius, incoming president of the National Association for Gifted Children, says the IQ score is one way to measure a child’s intelligence, but not the only indicator. (A score of 100 is average. Those with scores of at least 130 are generally considered gifted). The number could even change a few points from one day to the next. She says you may want to have your child tested if his intellectual development is out of sync with other kids his age or if he doesn’t seem to be working up to his ability in school.
A high IQ score might explain why a student is curious at home but would rather talk in class than listen to his teacher. Test results might explain why your math whiz struggles with reading. The bottom line is an IQ test can potentially answer a lot of unanswered questions.
Many parents think their kids are smart. But if you think your child is especially bright, you’re probably correct. “Parents are very good, the research shows, at identifying when they think their child is advanced,” Olszewski-Kubilius says.
Dr. Rosina Gallagher, a psychologist and president of Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted, says it’s best to test kids around kindergarten. Have the assessment done by someone who has worked with children and will tell you more than the IQ score. The number isn’t as important as what the test results mean. “I think the purpose of the evaluation should be to really understand how the child learns,” Gallagher says, not just their level of intelligence.

The Native Chichicastenango, Guatemala

Of all the Central American countries, Guatemala is the one where the indigenous culture remains most alive. Nowhere is it more readily visible – in the clothing, rituals and language of the people – than in Chichicastenango, a small, sleepy town in Guatemala’s western highlands, which springs to life every Thursday and Saturday during its arts and crafts market.
My friend and I reached Chichicastenango late one rainy afternoon – with much relief. From the sprawling, polluted streets of Guatemala City, it had been a three-hour ride in a converted, brightly-painted American school bus, deeper and deeper into the mountains. And what a journey!
The bus charged through crowded intersections, roared down steep hills, swung at breakneck speed around hairpin turns, chugged up roads nearly concealed by rolling clouds before dipping into yet another lime-green valley, but at last it screeched into Chichicastenango. We tumbled out onto a nondescript street, still unsteady on our feet from the eye-widening ride, and seconds later the bus tore off.
The next morning, we set off bright and early to explore the place. The town itself was fairly unremarkable. While most of the one-story buildings were painted bold yellows, oranges or pink, many were just plain concrete. For a place which was supposed to be home for 50,000 souls, it also seemed rather small.

Travelling is one of the most exciting activities to do when you still can afford it. In fact, by travelling, you discover new countries and new cities that will help you understand new ways of living and increase your knowledge about some special countries. This paper intends to show different aims of travelling because people have many reasons to travel. However, some people think that travelling is a waste of time that has been created for rich and spoiled people; though it is frequent to see nowadays many people travelling to famous countries such as USA in order to realize the legendary cliché “the American Dream” which conducts to immigration problems and so issues with authorities. This paper intends to show that travelling can sometimes be for personal reasons; it can also be for formal reasons and finally travelling can be a way to help out some countries from different problems.
First of all, travelling can be for entertainment. In fact when you travel all over the world, there is a way for you to open up yourself to a whole new and different culture that surrounds us; especially if you are with your friends which will help you to feel more comfortable in order to make new relationships. In fact, by accomplishing such an action, you will become open-minded and try to discover all new traditions and cultures that you have never seen before. Besides it is a way for you to develop certain social skills, in order to communicate with others, whether with signs or different languages … All the same, those travels give you an opportunity to practice or learn new languages in order to be bi-lingual, which is a plus for you in your curriculum.

Brain Tumors Through Dental X-rays?

A common and potentially debilitating non-cancerous brain tumor has been linked to dental X-Rays. Research from the Yale School of Public Health published online in Cancer, a journal of the American Cancer Society, says that people who received frequent dental X-Rays before doses were lowered, were more than twice as likely to develop the tumors known as meningioma.
Meningioma is listed as a rare disease by the National Institutes of Health, with estimates showing around 8 people in 100,000 thousand suffer from the problem, which occurs more frequently in women than men. The tumors develop in the membrane that surrounds the brain (meninges) and can go undetected for years. They have been reported to get larger than a baseball and while not cancerous, the invasion of the skull cavity can cause problems ranging from headaches and vision problems to loss of speech and motor control.
The research team looked at data from nearly 1,500 patients from Connecticut, Massachusetts, North Carolina, California, and Texas who had the disease. They then looked at a similar number of control subjects that had similar characteristics but no tumor. The average age for both groups was 57.

The new TV technology was patented by Apple promises 3d television with a holographic display. Recently, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent filed by Apple last year, entitled “Three-Dimensional Display System”.
Inventor, Christoph H Krah, who also invented Apple’s multi-touch applications, describes this new TV technology as an advanced three-dimensional display system that allows users to touch and manipulate floating holographic images. This “Star Wars” inspired technology describes a 3D television that would project holographic images in space allowing users to grasp, rotates, and pushes them around like objects.
This holographic technology would also be available on future generation iPads and other Apple devices. This new TV technology delivers a holographic display without the need for eye-wear or headgear. A feedback mechanism also recognizes and identifies the proximity, location and movements of potential viewers in real time, and adjusts the holographic images for their viewing perspective.

In the early summer of 1956, 23 year-old Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), just down from Oxford and determined to make his way in the film business, worked as a lowly assistant on the set of ‘The Prince and the Showgirl’. The film that famously united Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams), who was also on honeymoon with her new husband, the playwright Aurthur Miller (Dougray Scott). Nearly 40 years on, his diary account The Prince, the Showgirl and Me was published, but one week was missing and this was published some years later as My Week with Marilyn – this is the story of that week. When Arthur Miller leaves England, the coast is clear for Colin to introduce Marilyn to some of the pleasures of British life; an idyllic week in which he escorted a Monroe desperate to get away from her retinue of Hollywood hangers-on and the pressures of work.
To the film’s credit, it is not entirely reverential of its central icon. In many ways, it ventures into risky “Mommie Dearest” territory. The Marilyn here is in touch with her own naked feelings but oblivious to the feelings of others, almost to the point of casual sadism.
